ACSN: Black Communities Confiscate Illegal Mining Equipment

Black communities are risking their lives to protect the rights to their territory. The government has not responded despite repeated denouncements of illegal mining throughout northern Cauca. Therefore, community leaders and members have made the decision to confiscate the machinery that is exploiting their land and violating their rights. ACSN: Black Communities in Cauca Peacefully Occupy Government Offices

The ACSN is monitoring the peaceful occupation of the Colombian Institute of Rural Development (INCODER) in Popayan, Cauca. Black community councils, social movements, and grass roots organizations organized under the Afro-Caucan Territorial Development Working Group decided to occupy the INCODER offices after the government failed to comply with agreements established at a meeting on October 8.
